Does anyone know where exactly was Srimad Bhagwatam recited for the first time?
Srimad Bhagwatam was recited for the first time on earth by Sri Shukdev Ji Maharaj at a place called Shuktaal, located in District Muzzafarnagar, U.P. It lies 150 km north of Delhi, on the Morana-Bhopa road, about 26 km from the district headquarters. A 5000-year-old tree on the banks of the river Ganga is said to be the exact spot where Sri Shukdev Ji Maharaj sat for seven days and recited ‘The Story of the Unborn’ to Maharaj Parikshit along with eighty-eight thousand rishis. Shuktaal teerth is located at 29 degrees N and 74.01 degrees E, and 150 feet above sea level.
Legend has it that the banyan tree under which he sat doesn’t shed its leaves in the autumn and has remained young and evergreen for the past five-thousand years. This banyan tree, unlike others of its species, doesn’t grow secondary roots. A lot of devotees come and arrange for a recitation of Srimad Bhagwatam at the same spot.
Good piece of information. Can’t even imagine the sense of divinity on seeing that Banyan tree and listening to Shrimad Bhagwat there 🙏
Very informative post.
